Scott Saunders, the owner of Saunders Loft, has had an interest with birds in general since he was a young boy. While still in elementary school, his mother bought him a field guide book on birds, which he memorized. He could identify a bird by its silhouette. As they would drive down the highway, he would point out every bird they passed by yelling out the type of bird, which used to drive his family crazy.

Scott's interest in pigeons came about in a very unusual way. By profession, he is a contractor. While on a job site, he witnessed an eagle stooping out of the sky at a duck just a few feet above him. The eagle missed the duck, but it stirred that childhood "bird" interest in Scott. Soon after, Scott found himself involved in falconry, chasing Jack Rabbits in the deserts of Utah and Wyoming with a Red-Tailed Hawk. A couple of years later, Scott acquired a falcon and moved from chasing things that run to things that fly. A neighbor, that raises show pigeons, would bring his culls to Scott. The problem was, show pigeons don't fly very well and Scott needed good strong pigeons that could get away from the falcon. Scott asked his friend if he had some good racing pigeons and his friend said he would sell him some for $350 each. Scott's response was, "FOR A PIGEON". Little did he know what chain of events that would open.

Scott started looking on the internet, to see what kind of "crazy person" would pay money for a pigeon. The more he read about racing pigeons, the greater his interest became. In the late spring of 2002, Scott contacted some local lofts to see what it would take to get involved with racing. Many of the local lofts were very willing to help him get started by donating young birds for the 2002 young bird season. Scott converted a falcon mew into a pigeon loft and the next thing he knew he was racing pigeons. He learned early on that winning doesn't come easy. His loft was a heat and air trap and only after a few young bird races, his birds were having health problems.

To his wife's total dismay, the old loft came down and a new loft, 66' in length, was under construction. Scott was determined to be ready for the 2003 young bird season. He spent hours studying pedigrees, systems, loft design, health programs.

After a tremendous amount of effort and preparation the 2003 young bird season was approaching. Scott felt like everything was in place. He had acquired some great birds during the fall, the loft was ready, the birds were responding great to the training, and it was off to the races.

Scott's efforts have paid off winning 1st Overall Racing Pigeon Digest Champion Young Bird 2003 , Racing Pigeon Digest Young Bird Champion Loft in 2004 along with many other Digest awards and most exciting, National Ace Pigeon Young  Bird 2004 ARPU. (See winning results under race record)
